(Can this be the most surprising and peaceful place on earth? Over 2000 pagodas and temples spread across Old Bagan - it is another out-of-this-world feeling when one arrives, just like Machu Picchu. The history of this place dates back to 9th century when it was the capital of the Bagan Kingdom. So why so many pagodas/stupas? Turns out, it's the people's way of being holy  and good by building a place of worship - there were over 10,000 of these over 100 sq km at the height of this empire.
